MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko sent Africa Day greetings to Chairman of the African Union, Angola President Joao Lourenco and, in his person, all the heads of countries and governments of the African Union member states, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
"This holiday symbolizes the victory of the aspirations for independence and sovereignty, the ideals of humanism and respect for human dignity over racism, colonial pressure and exploitation," the congratulatory message reads. “African countries are steadily moving towards sustainable development, food security, growing international authority, establishing themselves as a significant political, economic and moral force committed to multipolarity and the basic goals and principles of the UN Charter.
Belarus is rightly proud of its contribution to the sovereignty and independence of African states, the president emphasized. "In the times of the USSR, our military and civilian specialists helped the peoples of Algeria, Angola, Mozambique and other countries. Today Belarus has not deviated one step from the principles of effective support to its African friends," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian head of state called the joint agricultural mechanization program with Zimbabwe a true example of good faith, open and efficient cooperation, which sets a new high standard of partnership between Belarus and Africa.
“I am convinced that Belarusian technologies and competencies can be effectively used to achieve the goals set out by the African Union in the Program 2063, to implement flagship projects within the framework of the development strategy," the president stressed. “I am confident that in addition to the traditional areas of cooperation in food security, machinery supply and manufacturing, education, medicine and healthcare, the Belarusian side can be a reliable partner in a wide range of areas: from the establishment of new waste processing technologies to digitalization, peaceful use of atomic energy and cooperation in space exploration.
The head of state pointed out that Belarus, as the country chairing the Eurasian Economic Union in 2025, is ready to promote mutual trade in goods and services between the EAEU and the African Union, to facilitate the gradual removal of trade barriers. In his opinion, the above-mentioned issues can become the basis for intensifying the official dialog between Belarus and the African Union in any convenient format.
Aleksandr Lukashenko invited a high-level delegation representing the African Union Commission to visit Minsk for in-depth elaboration of promising forms of interaction. "I count on your support for this initiative," the Belarusian leader added.
The president also noted that he would be happy to meet with Joao Lourenco to discuss the topical agenda, including bilateral relations with Angola.
The Belarusian leader wished the heads of state and government of the African Union peace, prosperity, well-being and sustainable development, and the Angola president, as Chairman of this association, successes in his responsible post.
