Lukashenko: Russia outsources some operations in aircraft building, shipbuilding to Belarus

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Russia has offered Belarus a “good chunk” of work in aircraft building and shipbuilding, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik to receive his report, BelTA has learned.

The head of state  touched upon the topic of the manufacturing sector as Piotr Parkhomchik has an extensive experience in this sector and was put in charge of Brest Oblast to sort relevant things out.

“Momentum is good,” the head of the region reported.

"Well, you can provide momentum. But it is important to make sure all enterprises perform well. The manufacturing industries are very important for us. Shipbuilding and aircraft building are ever more important. When serving as deputy prime minister, you were familiar with the topic. Russia offered us a good chunk of operations in aircraft and shipbuilding like repairs and so on. Small-sized vessels. We used to have repair facilities near Gomel, in Mozyr and Pinsk. Well, back in the day it seemed that we did not need them as we are not a maritime power. Something was cut down, something was scrapped. If there are still capacities, if there are still professionals left, we should think about starting work in some areas," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state stated that Piotr Parkhomchik is intimately familiar with the relevant issues as he oversaw them while working in the government: “We need to be seriously engaged in this business both in terms of Osvei [Russian-Belarusian aircraft under development] and military aviation.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also recalled that many projects in the defense industry were launched with the participation of Piotr Parkhomchik. "I would like you to stay tuned and provide help and support where needed," he instructed.
