MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko revealed details of the discussion with the United States on trade during the ceremony to present the State Quality Mark awards on 20 January. The matter was brought up while inspecting the display of the Minsk Motor Plant, whose engine was awarded the quality mark, BelTA has learned.
The president wished that the Minsk Motor Plant would eventually produce all types of engines for the entire lineup of Belarusian machinery. “Think about it. We will help you,” he assured.
Aleksandr Lukashenko does not rule out cooperation with the United States in this regard. “Recently, I received a request from the White House in the United States of America. We have not made it public. ‘What can Belarus buy from the USA? We are ready to buy potash fertilizers, something else from you. But what can Belarus buy?’ Trump is a good economist. At least to have a balance [in trade],” the head of state shared the details. “I thought, well, maybe we don't buy very much. But when we looked, there was this long list [of products that Belarus can purchase from the United States]. We sent it to them. They were surprised that we could buy so much from them, including certain engines.”
