MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard reports from Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev, Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov, and Director General of Agrokombinat Dzerzhinsky Vladimir Lukyanov on 29 January. The officials had been nominated for different jobs but the head of state rejected the relevant proposals, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Eismont, Press Secretary of the Belarus president, told reporters: “It is one of the most important final moments of today’s work day of the president. The government and the Belarus President Administration had previously suggested moving to different jobs all those invited for today’s talk with the head of state. As a result of the consequent conversations the president turned down these proposals. All of them will keep doing their jobs with their own consent. As he’d promised, the president had a man-to-man talk to each person, who delivered their reports. Certainly, the president took into account without fail that each person invited to the meeting does the current job sufficiently well.”

As Vladimir Kukharev was delivering the report on the situation in Minsk, Aleksandr Lukashenko touched upon the possibility of personnel management decisions: “I am not going to be deliberately obscure. Many have mentioned either your desire or someone else’s desire for you to transfer to the government. We will also discuss this problem. As one man to another. As human beings. I emphasize once again: wherever you work, you know that there is always plenty of work. Moreover, at your age you also have to put efforts into proving to Minsk residents and the nation that you are ready to do a lot and you will do a lot. This is why we should have a man-to-man talk about the matter. Sincerely. Regardless of some wishes and proposals from anyone.”
“Moreover, those, who have also made a conclusion about either your desire or their proposal, have been warned by me that you and I will talk frankly. Because this job is complicated. I emphasize once again that it is the capital city. This is why they have to know that we will have a sincere conversation. I emphasize once again: this conversation, the second part is not about a catastrophically bad situation in Minsk. There are plenty of shortcomings just like everywhere else. We could use fewer of them. And I have no major complaints about the current top executive in Minsk,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

The matter of personnel management was also raised during the protocol part of the conversation with the head of the agricultural enterprise Agrokombinat Dzerzhinsky: “Just like Kukharev, I am getting reports that Lukyanov wants to work in the government. I said okay, I should talk to him just like to Kukharev – man to man. If he wants it, we cannot stand in the way (because you’ve earned it). If he doesn’t, then we could insist only if he couldn’t pull his weight. Otherwise, it would be dishonest and unfair if I appoint a person against his wishes. Certainly, he is a ‘soldier’ just like Kukharev and is ready to serve where the president tells him to. You are, too. But I don’t want to act like that because you still have potential and you can be beneficial at a concrete manufacturing enterprise. It’s good when a person is passionate about their job.”
