Lukashenko receives famous Omani sword

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - Following official talks in Minsk, Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said presented Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko with an Omani sword. Footage of the gift-giving ceremony was broadcast by Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The exchange of gifts is a standard part of official visits (and not only official ones) and an interesting behind-the-scenes moment. This time, Aleksandr Lukashenko exchanged a dagger for an Omani sword.

“This is the most famous sword in our country,” the Sultan of Oman said.

“In our tradition, it is customary to give a coin in return for a weapon. So, here is our coin,” the Belarusian leader said as he presented a reciprocal gift. According to the footage shown, a selection of Belarusian food products and a painting of a winter Belarusian landscape were also sent to Oman.

During previous talks held in December 2024 in Muscat, Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the Sultan of Oman with a Slutsk sash and a Shpagin submachine gun. In turn, the Sultan gave the Belarusian leader a traditional Omani khanjar dagger. This curved dagger is an essential part of the traditional costume for Omani Arabs and is a national symbol of the country.
