ZHODINO, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered to construct cost-effective pig breeding complexes that will produce pork fast. Alexander Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions as he visited the agricultural enterprise ZhodinoAgroPlemElita on 12 September, BelTA has learned.
Director General of the National Research Center for Animal Breeding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Nikolai Popkov put forward suggestions on how to restore pig population fast. He believes that a bigger focus should be placed on pork production in the conditions of the ASF instead of grappling with the issues after animals got infected. He believes that Belarus would benefit from building cost-effective pig breeding farms.
Alexander Lukashenko upheld this idea. He added that it is important to increase pork production in the current economic environment. “There is no pork in the former Soviet Union republics. The market is huge, the prices have skyrocketed. It means that we can take advantage of it and secure a foothold on the Russian market,” the President said.
“We can ramp up our efforts and offer these products that are in great demand,” the head of state believes. He emphasized that everything is about efficiency. “I believe that we should do it. We need to produce meat promptly and sell it,” the President said. “The decision has been made, so go ahead and fulfill it,” he said.
