MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - During a media briefing on Valaam Island, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned a drone that recently crashed in Belarus. The head of state made these remarks in the context of urging swift resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, BelTA learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko referenced the earlier proposals for an “air ceasefire”, a topic that was also discussed during his meeting with the U.S. representatives: “I said: Russia and President Putin are interested in this. But you do not want it. Tell Zelensky to agree, so these flying machines stop falling on people’s heads.”
“You know about the drone incident in Belarus. 59 kilograms of explosives, packed with bearing balls and such. Well, luckily it did not detonate. But it struck a 10-story residential building where ordinary people live,” the president noted.
“This escalation is dangerous. We must stop it and we must do so carefully,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
As BelTA reported previously citing the Investigative Committee, on the night of 29 July, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was detected by the Defense Ministry and suppressed by electronic warfare systems before crashing without detonation in the courtyard of building No.72 in Matusevicha Street in Minsk. The drone wreckage damaged several vehicles parked nearby and landed on the adjacent territory.

At the scene, investigators recovered fuselage and wing fragments of the UAV, the engine and navigation instruments, a warhead containing TNT and a large quantity of metal bearing balls as shrapnel.
