MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Lithuanian authorities destroyed their country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
“Lithuania is no more. They destroyed this beautiful country. Lithuanians are very hard-working patient people. In Soviet times, ‘under occupation’ as they describe it, Lithuania reached great heights! I have been to Lithuania. There were queues to buy Lithuanian-made machinery, foodstuffs. We dreamed of living the way the Baltic states lived,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Nowadays, despite the “democracy” in Lithuania, most of the population has moved out, the head of state emphasized. “They have no people left. Ukraine has also experienced this 'democracy',” the president added.

According to him, Belarusians sometimes wonder why Lithuania closes its borders and ports for Belarusian goods, and pursues hostile policy against Belarus. “We are patient with this. We have waived visas for Lithuanians and Latvians, and opened our borders. But they scare their people that we will recruit them here. Nothing of the sort! We have recruited enough Lithuanians and there is no need to recruit more. No, they persist with recruitment stories. Such nonsense!” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that when he was a member of parliament he traveled to Lithuania to support its leadership and wrote letters to Gorbachev, urging him to pursue a softer policy towards Lithuania. “I did everything to preserve the Soviet Union, but I did not want Lithuanians to suffer,” the head of state said.

“So they destroyed their country. There is nothing more to say about Lithuania today. They will do what the European Union and Brussels will tell them, because they are living on Brussels' money. When the US tells them to do something, they will rush to do it. The worst is yet to come for Europe,” the president added.
