MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarus prioritizes technological sovereignty due to the tough experience of cooperation with the West. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I knowingly prioritize technological sovereignty because we have been tempered by the experience of so-called cooperation with the West. Using various levers intentional and systemic steps were taken to make us dependent on Western equipment and even minor components.”
This is why, the Belarusian leader stressed, it is now clear how important it is to have proprietary R&D products in economy branches of critical importance. “Now we just have to resume manufacturing in a brand new state or create our own in microelectronics, robot technology, pharmaceutical industry, unmanned systems, and so on from scratch. Yes, it may be complicated and very expensive today but the investments will be recouped many times over tomorrow. It is simply unavoidable,” he is convinced.
