BISHKEK, 27 November (BelTA) - Military risks and threats are escalating along the perimeter of the CSTO borders, particularly on the organization’s western flank, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the CSTO summit in Bishkek on 27 November, BelTA has learned.
“Military risks and threats are mounting along the perimeter of the CSTO borders, especially on the western flank of the organization, where, it would seem, an adequate and stable situation should be maintained. The situation resembles a besieged fortress, which is what Belarus is living in today,” the president said.
In his words, the aggregate defense spending of NATO countries in 2025 will amount to approximately $1.6 trillion. The military ambitions of Germany are growing, as it intends to significantly increase its military spending. Poland, in turn, will allocate nearly $55 billion (about 5% of its GDP) to defense in 2026, becoming the NATO leader in this indicator. The size of its armed forces has already exceeded 200,000 people. The Baltic states are not far behind Warsaw in their growth rates.

“All of the above, combined with aggressive rhetoric, indicates that Western politicians are deliberately preparing for war. It is not us, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin, Russian president], who are preparing for war, but according to all the facts, it is them,” the head of state stated.
He also drew attention to the fact that Western countries continue to pump weapons into Ukraine. “Where these weapons are today is clear to everyone. They are spreading all over the world,” the Belarusian leader said.
