MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – We need fundamental reforms in the country's education system, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting to discuss law and order matters on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

Education Minister Andrei Ivanets said that education puts issues of personal development in the forefront now. He separately dwelt on measures to prevent juvenile delinquency.

“A new person has come to the system. I expect reforms from you there. Not a revolution, but reforms. You are a man of profound experience. And you must be the most loyal man of your country. Everything starts from you, from our children,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state recalled his requirements for new textbooks and work with personnel in educational institutions. “There is no place for irresponsibility there. Teachers must devote themselves to their work. The same as teachers did when I was a student. They appreciated what they did. Today it is a total mess,” the president said, criticizing the current state of affairs. “We - and Russia - will survive only through strict discipline. Otherwise we will be used.”

“I give you a year to carry out a major restructuring of the education system, first of all in schools. You know what needs to be done,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
