MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have a shared position on foreign policy issues, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in Minsk on 25 June, BelTA has learned.

“We have absolutely no problems when it comes to interaction between our foreign ministries, or our foreign policy or our work on international platforms, from the UN to this unfortunate OSCE. We have the same agenda. We are on board with each other on key issues. Belarus will always support Russia whenever it can. Thank you again for never failing to back us ,” the president said.

In turn, Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the foreign ministries are putting in their best efforts in fulfilling the strategic foreign policy tasks set by the presidents of Belarus and Russia. “Our foreign policy activities are structured in such a way as to provide diplomatic support for integration processes,” he said. “Yesterday we signed a special statement that provides for strengthening coordination keeping in mind not only individual interests of Belarus and Russia, but also the interests of the Union State,” the Russian foreign minister noted.

“As to other areas, yesterday we spoke in detail about the UN, the OSCE. You were lucky - you were not part of the Council of Europe. Therefore, you didn’t have to leave,” Sergey Lavrov added.
