MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is taking part in the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Bishkek, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state arrived at the Yntymak Ordo, the venue for the summit, where he was welcomed by President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan.
This building is a new architectural symbol of Kyrgyzstan. Its name holds deep meaning. “Yntymak” means “peace, friendship, and unity”, while “Ordo” refers to a place and center where strategically important decisions that determine the country’s future are made and implemented.
At the summit, the country leaders will review the CSTO's work since the last session and discuss international and regional security challenges. In his address, Aleksandr Lukashenko will speak on current issues of ensuring collective security in the Eurasian space and will outline areas that require special attention from the partners.
Among the documents to be adopted are a final declaration of the Collective Security Council, as well as decisions concerning the organization’s ongoing operational needs and strengthening cooperation in countering illicit drug trafficking and illegal migration.
The summit is also expected to make a decision on the candidacy for the new CSTO Secretary General. The term of the current head of the secretariat, Kazakhstan’s representative Imangali Tasmagambetov, expires on 31 December 2025. It is expected that a representative of Kyrgyzstan, Taalabek Masadykov, who currently holds the position of CSTO Deputy Secretary General, will assume the post for the next three-year term.
