MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to create any conditions for the realization of investment projects. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement at a conference with Belarusian ambassadors, BelTA has learned.
“As far as the attraction of investments is concerned, we are ready to consider any investment projects and create any conditions,” the head of state assured.
Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar presented a report during the conference. He explained how tasks are being accomplished to grow the economy thanks to investments in new manufacturing facilities and technologies. “We use various sources, including domestic ones and foreign ones. In current conditions we focus on our domestic investors. This task is being incrementally accomplished. We’ve implemented about 650 investment projects over the course of five years,” the minister said.
He remarked that in the course of interaction with foreign investors it is necessary to proceed from pinpoint support for concrete projects. Foreign investments in Belarus are on the rise. Last year Belarus attracted $1.7 billion in foreign direct investments (4% up). A positive trend has been observed this year as well. About 90% of the investments are channeled into the real sector of the economy.
Yuri Chebotar pointed out that at present in addition to traditional investor countries there are major states that are expanding the relevant operations. The number includes India and Saudi Arabia. “Our ambassadors in these countries have to actively seek and attract investors,” he said.
For the successful realization of this task an overall attractive environment for implementing investment projects has been formed in Belarus. A number of legislative innovations have been introduced. Project activities are on the rise in a number of key spheres such as the processing industry, agriculture, power engineering.
“Pinpoint work with investors is the most important task for ambassadors. A number of tasks can be accomplished only together with the investors that have the experience and the technologies. The attraction of foreign investments contributes to steady export growth. Investors are often interested in integrating manufacturing facilities into international manufacturing chains,” the minister voiced a number of advantages of putting more effort into this field.
Moreover, a database has been formed in Belarus to list investment proposals, including concrete projects and sites. The embassies can find an appropriate variant in it.
