Belarusian president invited to attend first Board of Peace meeting

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has received an invitation to attend the first meeting of leaders for the Board of Peace, press secretary of the Belarusian president Natalya Eismont told BelTA.

"Indeed, an invitation to the first meeting of leaders within the framework of the Board of Peace has been extended to the Belarusian president. Unfortunately, we received it late, and the president's work schedule for this period had already been planned. Yes, we would gladly visit the United States of America, but there are matters that cannot be postponed,” the press secretary stated. “Furthermore, we are also taking into account potential logistical difficulties that may arise due to illegal sanctions, primarily those by the European Union, given the closure of EU airspace.”

“As a result, while we appreciate the invitation, the president will not be able to participate in this event. At the same time, let me emphasize: we fully share the commitment of the U.S. president and the Board of Peace to resolving all global conflicts through peaceful means,” Natalya Eismont said.

She noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will represent Belarus in Washington. He is fully versed in the matters of Belarus’ participation in the Board of Peace and other issues concerning the regional situation and bilateral Belarusian-U.S relations.

“The USA has already been informed of this decision,” the press secretary said.

As it has been reported, the United States plans to hold a Board of Peace meeting in Washington on 19 February.
