MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Scientific achievements in such an important area of research as polar exploration is a significant means of international diplomacy, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting with the Belarusian polar explorers on 17 October, BelTA has learned.
"It is very important that we continue to actively cooperate with other countries in the Antarctic exploration", the president noted. "Especially nowadays, when the complicated geopolitical situation requires searching for new areas of cooperation and making effective decisions to promote creative initiatives."
According to the Belarusian leader, Antarctica is a perfect example of unbiased relations and mutual respect between different countries. "Thank God that there is still a piece of land on the planet where such relations are possible," he added.
"Generally speaking, scientific achievements in such important areas of research as space exploration, nuclear energy development, pandemics prevention, and polar exploration are vital means of international diplomacy," the head of state emphasized.
"It is very important that we continue to actively cooperate with other countries in the Antarctic exploration", the president noted. The head of state cited cooperation with Russia in the Antarctic exploration. This area of bilateral cooperation has repeatedly been discussed at the highest level. "Russia will continue providing support. We have no complaints. They will provide all possible support. Certainly, we need to work together, share the results of research and so on," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
