MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) - Geographic distance is not an obstacle to successful bilateral cooperation, State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich said during a working trip to Vietnam, BelTA has learned.
Speaking to journalists, Aleksandr Volfovich noted that Belarus and Vietnam hold similar views on the modern world order, advocating collective and indivisible security based on international law. Representatives of Vietnam traditionally participate in the annual Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, which provides an open exchange of opinions free from pressure or bias.
“Undoubtedly, a solid foundation for our strategic cooperation has been laid at the highest state level,” Aleksandr Volfovich said. “Today Belarus-Vietnam interaction is constructive in nature and serves as the basis for building the most ambitious projects not only in the political, economic, and humanitarian areas, but also in security.”
During his visit, the secretary met with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam. The parties discussed pressing issues of international and regional security, the state and prospects of practical bilateral cooperation, and the expansion of interregional ties. Special attention was given to socio-economic development, the formation of the real sector of the economy, and the development of joint industrial cooperation.
“We intend to make use of the advantages and opportunities that have opened up for our countries with the entry into force of the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Vietnam,” Aleksandr Volfovich noted.
According to the State Secretariat of the Security Council, during a meeting between Aleksandr Volfovich and Vietnam’s Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang, the parties touched upon both current and potential areas of military-technical cooperation, joint efforts of the two countries’ security agencies to counter modern risks, challenges, and threats.
“To illustrate how strong the momentum in interagency cooperation is, let me cite just a few figures,” Aleksandr Volfovich said. “Only in 2024-2025, dozens of meetings of various levels have been held between military departments, special services, and law enforcement agencies. Around 10 interagency cooperation documents have been signed.”
A joint Belarus-Vietnam commission on military-technical cooperation is functioning. There are concrete examples of effective interaction in such a sensitive and important area as combating terrorism and extremism. Vietnam, like Belarus, recognizes the danger posed by international terrorism.
