Valuev: Street protests may lead Belarus down ‘Ukraine's path'

MOSCOW, 15 September (BelTA) - Street protests are dangerous for Belarus, because they can lead the country along the Ukrainian path, member of the Russian State Duma and former professional boxer Nikolai Valuev told BelTA.

“The things that are taking place in Ukraine can happen to Belarus as well. You know about the plan which was quickly removed from the internet by the so-called coordination council. For it, this is a very inconvenient document, which clearly spelled out exactly what is happening in Ukraine now, including the Russian language, the relations with Russia, and many other things, including the erasure of historical memory. It just seems that this is impossible in Belarus. In fact, everything is much more serious: before you know it, they will be watching what language you speak in your kitchen, not even at work,” said Nikolai Valuev.

The Russian MP is convinced that external forces are behind the protests in Belarus. “They do not hide it, frankly and directly interfering in the internal affairs of Belarus. Ambassadors are usually expelled for such actions,” Nikolai Valuev said.

The politician also noted that people in Russia are worried about the Belarusians and have been closely watching the situation in Belarus. “It is not about Belarus only. The global plan goes much further, and, of course, it is aimed at Russia. President Vladimir Putin understands it very well,” said Nikolai Valuev.
