MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Matters of normalizing relations were discussed during the two-day talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale told the media following the talks with the head of state in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

According to John Coale, his talks with Aleksandr Lukashenko were highly productive.
“We talked about the war between Ukraine and Russia, about Venezuela. President [Aleksandr] Lukashenko mentioned many people and many things. We had a very good conversation. We talked about the future, about how to move towards closer ties between the United States and Belarus in order to normalize relations. That is our goal,” the U.S. representative said.

When asked about what needs to be done for further normalization, John Coale stressed: “Exactly what we are already doing. We are lifting sanctions, releasing detainees. We are in constant contact with each other.”

“As we grow closer, talk and exchange ideas more, we are, so to speak, moving from the first ‘infant’ steps to more confident ones,” John Coale added.
