Slovak ambassador: EU’s unilateral restrictive measures harm the union itself

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – The unilateral restrictive measures imposed by the European Union harm the union itself first and foremost, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migaš said ahead of the ceremony to present his credentials to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at the Palace of Independence on 11 September, BelTA has learned.

“There have been many sanctions, and new ones are being prepared,” the diplomat noted. “It turns out they cause more harm to the European Union, including Slovakia.”

“This is why we need to think about whether this is the right approach and the right course of action, including in the context of Slovakia‑Belarus relations. We should reflect on this and perhaps say goodbye to sanctions for good,” Ambassador Jozef Migaš stressed.

While receiving the credentials, the president of Belarus remarked that the mission of advancing Belarus-Slovakia relations had been entrusted to his old acquaintance and experienced statesman Jozef Migaš. “We highly appreciate the independent policy pursued by Bratislava. It pursues the policy courageously and decently despite external pressure and threats. We spoke about it with Prime Minister Robert Fico in Beijing,” the head of state recalled.
