Shoigu: Recent nuclear drills will cool down ‘hot heads’ in the West

MOSCOW, 26 May (BelTA) - The nuclear exercises held in Belarus and Russia will cool down ‘hot heads’ in the West, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu said at a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

"The exercises of the nuclear forces that took place last week will moderate the fervor of Western strategists and force them to take a sober look at the possible consequences of their domestic policies towards Russia and its allies,” Sergey Shoigu said.

He stated that the level of security in the world has severely degraded. “The situation is particularly tense along the western borders of the CSTO. The main threat comes from the NATO bloc and the member countries of the so-called civilized Europe,” Sergey Shoigu said. “"In the 2025 report the NATO secretary general proudly stated that military expenditures of all member states had increased, exceeding one and a half trillion US dollars. The heaviest contributors are Eastern European nations and the Baltics, not the wealthiest countries out there. They spend about 4% of their national GDP on so-called defense. The Baltic states openly call to attack Kaliningrad Oblast. This is, apparently, a demonstration of their commitment to peaceful coexistence with their neighbors.”

The meeting was attended by State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich.
