MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - Over the years of sanctions, Belarus has ensured its technological sovereignty, while the European Union has simply traded one dependency for another, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
Maxim Ryzhenkov described the European Union’s policy as self-isolation and suggested taking a look at what is happening around Europe.
“If you look at the borders of the European Union, there is barely a stretch along that border where there are no hostilities or where there are any stable countries through which EU members can communicate with the rest of the world,” the diplomat noted. “Today, the Middle East has flared up. And even that opportunity has been lost to them - for delivering cargo, goods, people, or even oil. We see the catastrophic consequences for the European Union. It’s high time they came to their senses and remembered that there is a stable state right here - Belarus. There is this stretch of border, through which further on lies Russia, and then China, and Southeast Asia.”
In the meantime, the peoples of EU countries are hostages to their short-sighted politicians. At the same time, Belarus has developed good relations with a number of European states, for example, with Hungary and Slovakia. “Because the leaders of these countries stand for their own peoples, not for transnational corporations. They don’t play politics like children playing computer games,” the minister said.
