Russian State Duma warns West against attacking Belarus

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Russia is ready to defend Belarus using all available forces as its closest ally, member of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Belik told the media, BelTA has learned.

Moscow warned the West that any attack on Belarus would be seen as an attack on Russia. "We are not surprised by the West's plans to make this move," Dmitry Belik said. "On a fundamental level (and mentally too), we are a single whole, which means that any attack on Belarus would be seen as an attack on Russia."

He believes that the West aims to "create another Ukraine" in Belarus and encircle Russia from the southwest. "This is why our leadership is committed to ensuring the defense of our closest ally with all available forces," the MP said.

However, he expressed doubt that the West would be willing to do so right now. "Will the West take this step right now? I do not think so. The risks of a global conflict are too high, after which no one would have anything to fight over and make money from. This is the most important thing for the collective West," Dmitry Belik said.

Earlier, the Belarusian ONT TV channel reported that the self-exiled opposition together with the West had been preparing an armed invasion of Belarus for several years. It was pointed out that they have identified four territories in the southwest of Belarus to seize.
