MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – The reincarnation of the Cold War risk turning hot, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said addressing a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Council of Ministers in Malta, TASS reports
The US and its allies have thrown international security agreements down the drain. “And the question is, why? The answer is clear to us: they were driven by the desire to bring NATO back to the political forefront. After suffering disgrace in Afghanistan, they needed a new enemy to unite against, and as a result, the Cold War was brought back to life; only now, it carries a higher risk of escalating into a hot phase," the top Russian diplomat pointed out.
"Those who claim to be the frontline states in the fight against the Russian threat believe that borders reinforced with barbed wire and anti-tank ditches, and long lines of those willing to host foreign troops, preferably US ones, are the perfect picture of security," Sergey Lavrov remarked.
He also noted that all OSCE institutions are “dead silent” about the actions of the Kiev authorities. “Western countries, the Chairmanship, the Secretary General and all OSCE institutions, which raise concerns over human rights on every occasion, keep dead silent about the actions of the Nazi Kiev regime that has adopted, since 2017, a series of laws exterminating the Russian language in all areas: education, media, culture, art. Recently they’ve banned the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” Lavrov said.
