TEHRAN, 1 September (BelTA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to take decisive and transparent steps for strengthening global peace and economic cooperation.
Addressing the SCO summit, Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the organization’s crucial role in forging a multipolar world. He urged member countries to adopt coordinated strategies to build peace and advance financial integration.
The Iranian leader proposed the SCO’s special accounts and settlements mechanism as a countermeasure against unilateral sanctions. According to him, the plan seeks to reduce dependence on the US dollar by shifting trade to national currencies. Furthermore, Masoud Pezeshkian pushed for creating a joint digital infrastructure and implementing central bank digital currencies to facilitate safe and fast transactions.
The Iranian president also proposed expanding the range of the organization’s official languages to promote inclusiveness and cultural exchanges.
He noted that Iran views the SCO’s 10-year development strategy as a historic opportunity to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including infrastructure, technology, energy, digital economy, climate change, culture and science.
