MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – U.S. leader Donald Trump did indeed make a request to Russian President Vladimir Putin for Moscow to refrain from striking Kiev until 1 February, spokesperson for the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov told the media, TASS reports.

“Indeed, President Trump personally asked President Putin to refrain for a week, until 1 February, from carrying out strikes on Kiev in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations,” the Kremlin representative noted.

However, he did not answer the question of what exactly the Russian side's response was to this proposal. “I have nothing to add to what has already been said,” Dmitry Peskov said.

The day before, Trump stated that he personally approached his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin with a request to refrain from striking on Kiev. The U.S. leader, for his part, said that the Russian president had agreed.

"I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kiev and the cities for a week. And he agreed to do so. I have to tell you, it was very nice,” Trump stated.

The head of the White House also noted that significant progress has been made in the negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement.
