MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) - No date has been set yet for a meeting between President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Donald Trump of the United States, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media, TASS reports.

“No dates have been set. There is no clarity so far,” he said. Dmitry Peskov also noted that a Russia-US summit requires serious preparation and will take time, which is why no specific timeline has been set.

According to him, the Russian foreign minister and the U.S. secretary of state are in contact regarding the organization of a future Russia-US summit in Budapest. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide more specific details on the potential venue for the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia will not announce the proposals for the summit with the United States in a “megaphone mode” as it would harm the negotiation process.

The Russian president's spokesman also stated that it is premature to discuss the participation of any EU countries in the Russia-U.S. summit in Budapest. “It is probably premature to talk about this for now. So far, none of these details have been discussed,” Dmitry Peskov remarked, commenting on a report by Politico which claimed that a number of EU states would like to join the summit of Russian and U.S. presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest.

Dmitry Peskov pointed out that European countries are currently showing no interest in peace and are doing nothing to promote it. According to him, on the contrary, the leaders of these states are encouraging Kiev to continue military operations. “At present, Europeans are not advocates of peace, nor are they a force that is contributing to the peace cause,” he emphasized.

The information circulating in the media about the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump arriving at the Budapest summit on the same plane is a "fantasy”, Dmitry Peskov said when asked to comment on the relevant reports.
