MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) - Moscow assesses the situation regarding the negotiations on Ukraine as a “ prolonged pause”, spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said at a news briefing, TASS reports.
“We see it as a pause, an overly prolonged pause, which arose due to Kiev's unwillingness to intensify this very negotiation process,” he noted when asked about how the Kremlin assesses the current situation with the negotiations on Ukraine.
Dmitry Peskov also denied the allegations about the cancellation of the Russia-USA summit in Budapest and emphasized that no specific timing for it had been agreed upon.
On 16 October, U.S. President Donald Trump, following a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said that they had agreed to meet in Budapest soon and discuss the Ukrainian conflict settlement among other issues. For his part, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ordered the formation of an organizing body to facilitate the summit. However, on 23 October, Donald Trump announced the cancellation of the meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest. At the same time, he implied that he might still meet with the Russian president.
