Parliament speaker hails great progress in Belarus-Pakistan relations

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA)-  In recent years, the relations between Belarus and Pakistan have noticeably advanced, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan in Minsk on 3 January, BelTA learned.

“Four years of your work in Belarus have flown by. It seems that you arrived just recently and it is already time to return and start a new job,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “Four years is a very short period in a human life. But you have done a lot during this period. During this period the relations between Belarus and Pakistan have significantly advanced."

The Speaker recalled that last year the countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. “A number of landmark meetings and high-level visits took place last year. You took the most active part in the organization and preparation of these events. At the end of November last year, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited Pakistan. He met with the prime minister. The countries signed a roadmap for 2025-2027, which opens new prospects for cooperation,” he emphasized.
“In October of last year the Belarusian prime minister took part in the meeting of the heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Pakistan. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to you and your country for being among the first to ratify the memorandum on Belarus' SCO accession,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “The visit of the parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Pakistan Sardar Sadiq left a lasting impression. There was an interested exchange of views, conversations between the parliamentarians of the two countries on specific issues of social and economic, social and political development and in general on building a dialogue between the parliaments of our countries. The most important thing is that the arrangements we agreed on then (the volume is significant) are being implemented. It is heartening that all this was accomplished with the help of parliamentarians.”

Igor Sergeyenko lauded Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan's contribution to Belarusian-Pakistani cultural and humanitarian ties.

“A serious groundwork has been laid for the next head of the diplomatic mission, who will come after you. He will have something to rely on in his work. I am convinced that the high level of Belarusian-Pakistani relations will continue to serve as a reliable basis for the dynamic development of cooperation in all areas,” the speaker added.
