MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – The Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Republic of Belarus jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Belarus and the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries held an event in the House of Friendship on 29 November to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, BelTA has learned.
The event began with the performance of the national anthems of Belarus and Palestine. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Palestine to Belarus Ahmed Almathbouh welcomed those present and thanked them for their support for and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually on 29 November, is designed to mark a UN resolution. It highlights the ongoing struggle for the rights and self-determination of the Palestinians, especially in the context of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. This date calls on the international community to support, seek justice for and recognize Palestinian statehood. It has been celebrated since 1978 and is intended to call attention to the continuous struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination and their rights in line with international law,” the diplomat noted.
Ahmed Almathbouh emphasized: “Today, we have gathered together to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those who contribute to supporting our just cause, to all those who came out to the streets to express their outrage against the official policies of a number of countries complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. I want to say 'Thank you' to all the countries that support Palestine in the international arena and fight for justice, as well as the countries that provide assistance to the Palestinian people.”
“Today we see a humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Palestine in general and in the Gaza Strip in particular, where our people are being subjected to genocidal crimes and brutal attacks. The loud cries from the hearts of our people in Gaza are not only cries of pain, but also calls for justice and freedom. What is happening in Gaza is a war crime and a crime against humanity. It is painful to see incendiary bombs, rockets and shells being dropped on children, women and the elderly, houses being destroyed, the supply of water, food and medicine being blocked, tearing apart the social fabric, while the silence of the ruling regimes supporting this genocide is becoming unbearable,” said the head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission.
He went on saying: “We call on the international community to take more action to allow the entry of humanitarian aid, including food, water and medicine. It is time to address the roots of this conflict. The international community and international organizations, especially the UN, must take over responsibility for the Palestinian people, since on 29 November 1947, the UN adopted a resolution on the partition of Palestine.”
“We believe that relations between states should be built on dialogue, trust and common values,” the Palestinian ambassador said. “We believe that the world will stop being silent and the truth will ultimately prevail. We will achieve independence, and our land will be liberated, and our children and families will return to their homes, and the stolen rights of our people will be restored, and a just peace will reign.”
