MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – The West is trying to insulate itself from problems with migrants with razor wire. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “Belarus should not be blamed for the flow of migrants, who are going and trying to go to Eastern Europe via Belarus. They should not look for the source of evil in Belarus. It is necessary to ask the collective West what fosters these migration processes, where these flows of migrants came from. People used to live a happy life in such beautiful countries as Libya, Iran, Iraq, and Syria and didn't think about Europe at all. But once those countries were turned upside down, once the leaders were deposed by unconstitutional means, once the cities were destroyed and life over there became full of hunger, poverty, and bomb explosions, people certainly ran to save their kids and their families. And they seek various ways to accomplish that. And Europe even invited them. They were told that everything is fine in Europe and people went to live there, they are ready to work there.”
As for the situation at Belarus' borders with Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, Aleksandr Volfovich noted: “Instead of working in compliance with existing international treaties and bilateral agreements, which have always been observed as a matter of principle, the West is trying to insulate itself from this problem with razor wire. People, who are trying to go there, die because of it. Instead of resolving it by normal diplomatic means, instead of looking for ways to resolve the problem, the West is trying to accuse Belarus of waging some hybrid war. In fact, there is no such thing.”
Aleksandr Volfovich stressed that the State Border Committee of Belarus keeps working. “Over 700 attempts to push migrants from the territory of Poland and Lithuania to Belarus' territory were stopped in August-September 2021 alone. Poles and Lithuanians tried to push over 8,500 refugees to Belarus. Before being pushed here the people are beaten up and shocked with electricity. It happens every day. It is not the solution of the problem in my opinion. It is necessary to start negotiations and find a consensus,” Aleksandr Volfovich believes.
