MP comments on Trump’s letter to Lukashenko, path to normalized relations

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) - We have always advocated for good partner relations between Belarus and the United States, Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, said in a comment with BelTA regarding the personal address of the U.S. leader to the Belarusian president in the context of resolving the situation in Gaza and the proposal to become a founding member of the Board of Peace, a new international organization.

“The personal message from U.S. President Donald Trump to Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko, in which he invited him to participate as one of the founding members of the Gaza Board of Peace, demonstrates the high international authority of Aleksandr Lukashenko. This also emphasizes that the world has not simply taken note, but positively assesses the peaceful foreign policy of our country,” Sergei Rachkov stated.

He particularly stressed: “This fact shows that there is no talking about the international isolation of the Republic of Belarus. This is yet another clear, vivid, and weighty response to those who believe Belarus is in some kind of isolation.”

Sergei Rachkov noted that Belarus is included in major international processes. “Today they are very dynamic, sometimes contradictory, but our country maintains clear well-considered positions. These are consistently articulated by the Belarusian head of state, receiving broad resonance in world politics. Therefore, such an invitation to Aleksandr Lukashenko among the first world leaders and states is absolutely deserved. This once again shows that Belarus is at the center of world events,” he said.

“Today, we are not just visible in the world stage and arena. We demonstrate our commitment to peace and put forward concrete proposals for shaping a new international security architecture. The Republic of Belarus advocates for integration processes and for utilizing all positive aspects each country has to offer. Among other things, Belarus exemplifies stability and calm and also the ability to take into account and learn certain lessons from complex situations. We have completed the renewal of our country's political system, which has also been noticed and acknowledged by our international partners,” Sergei Rachkov added.

In his view, the aforementioned message to Aleksandr Lukashenko on behalf of Donald Trump fosters certain hopes for the continued development of the process of normalizing Belarusian-U.S. relations. “We have always advocated for good partner relations between Belarus and the United States. Each country has numerous strengths, and by combining them, we can achieve significant positive results for the benefit of both the Belarusian and American peoples,” he concluded.

For its part, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the country is ready to take part in the work of the Board of Peace in the hope that this organization will expand its scope and authority far beyond the mandate proposed in the initiative. In the long term, this could also lead to its active involvement in global processes aimed at resolving any international conflicts.
