Minsk set to host representatives of 45 countries for Conference on Eurasian Security

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - Preparations for the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, which is to take place on 31 October-1 November, are heading into homestretch, press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz told BelTA.


 “The official registration is over. We expect to welcome about 600 participants. These are high-ranking officials from all over Eurasia, representatives of the OSCE, CIS, SCO countries, heads of a number of international organizations, heads and high-ranking experts of the leading think tanks of the entire Eurasian region,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

“In total, we expect representatives of 45 countries,” Anatoly Glaz said.

“Representatives, including high-ranking ones, start arriving already from today,” the spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued. “In particular, the minister of foreign affairs and expatriates of Syria starts his working visit to Belarus on 29 October. He has a working program and is set to speak at the conference on 31 October.”

“About 150 Belarusian and foreign journalists have already been accredited to cover the event. If someone wants to be additionally accredited, we will consider these applications,” Anatoly Glaz said.

He added: “As it has been noted earlier, the conference participants and Belarus as a hosting country expect that the event will be used as an opportunity to discuss and outline the promising contours of future Eurasian security, future security of our region, and also to consider the initiative put forward by the Republic of Belarus and supported by our strategic partner the Russian Federation to develop a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century.”

“The conference is scheduled to open with a high-level session on 31 October. We expect 14 speeches by high-level guests, including Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Peter Szijjarto, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh. Attending the conference will also be heads of international organizations of our region - secretaries general of the CSTO, CICA, CIS, the state secretary of the Union State,” Anatoly Glaz said.
