MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Representatives of ministries of foreign affairs and other agencies met at the headquarters of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Minsk on 14 August for consultations on counteracting new challenges and threats, representatives of the Department for Cooperation in Political, Humanitarian, and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.
Representatives of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Anti-Terrorism Center of the CIS member states, representatives of the Secretariat of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the CIS member states, and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee took part in the consultations.
Participants of the consultations welcomed the CIS’ dynamically developing interaction with other regional and subregional organizations, primarily the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in the sphere of counteraction of new challenges and threats to security. Participants of the consultations expressed interest in deepening and expanding such cooperation.
During the consultations terrorist threats were evaluated, information was provided about avenues of international counter-terrorism cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States and with specialized international organizations.
Close attention was paid to matters of counteracting the radicalization and the spread of terrorist ideology and extremist ideology, matters of counteracting money laundering and terrorism financing as well as antidrug cooperation.
An agreement was reached to continue the practice of consultations on counteracting new challenges and threats in 2026.
