MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) - Europe needs to restore good relations with Russia and Belarus, to ensure security and stability, among other things, said Member of the European Parliament Fernand Kartheiser from Luxembourg, TASS reported.
“There is certainly no need for Western Europe to pursue defense spending comparable to that of the United States, as it does not require the same scale of forces. Only a relatively small portion of the U.S. defense budget is allocated to NATO needs. Western Europe should not have ambitions to become a global military power. The only goal it should pursue is ensuring security and stability in Europe. There is also no doubt that to facilitate such a process, it is important to restore good relations with Russia, Belarus, and other countries,” he noted.
