MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Kyrgyzstan will assume the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, according to the final declaration of the SCO summit in Tianjin, TASS reports.

As noted in the document, the Kyrgyz chairmanship will be held under the slogan “25 years of the SCO: together towards sustainable peace, development and prosperity”.

“The next meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2026,” the final declaration says.

“The member states commend the People’s Republic of China for its successful SCO chairmanship in 2024-2025. China’s leadership was instrumental in enhancing mutual understanding and trust between peoples, fostering greater cooperation, and reinforcing the organization’s authority,” the summit participants noted.

The SCO summit taking place in Tianjin, China, from 31 August to 1 September, is the association’s largest to date. The event has brought together over 30 heads of state and leaders of international organizations.

The SCO was founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. China assumed the rotating chairmanship of the SCO in July 2024 after the Astana summit.
