MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Political scientist Piotr Petrovsky, in an interview with a BelTA correspondent, shared his perspective on the invitation for Belarus to join a new international body – the Board of Peace.

“Belarus’ participation in this initiative serves as a declaration by Minsk of its commitment to peace. It is in no way a game against anyone, nor an attempt to forge a coalition against something. Rather, we see this fundamentally as a coalition for peace. Furthermore, I believe our country will work to align the interests and objectives of various nations in pursuit of peace. This will be done, among other things, through the initiatives of U.S. President Donald Trump, while maintaining a clear understanding of him, his team, and the motives behind forming such coalitions, and without harboring illusions,” Piotr Petrovsky stated.

He noted that Donald Trump is fighting for his own hegemony and is employing various means to that end. “Belarus doesn’t have big expectations from these initiatives. However, Minsk diplomatically demonstrates its willingness to use any means to achieve peace, including the American president’s initiative. Therefore, Belarus is not refusing to participate. This participation, however, will be aimed at achieving concrete positive results,” the political scientist emphasized.

As previously reported, the Belarusian side received a personal letter from Donald Trump addressed to President Aleksandr Lukashenko. Sent within the context of seeking a resolution to the situation in Gaza, the correspondence invites Belarus to become a founding member of the Board of Peace.
