MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) - For Vladimir Zelensky the relationship with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko are a sensitive issue, Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Zelensky is still sore about the relationship with Aleksandr Grigorievich. I know what I am talking about. It’s still a sensitive issue for him. I know this for sure. I don't know if you have ever found yourself in a situation when for some reason you ruined a relationship with a person you like. You destroyed it yourself but it still hurts. I know for sure that Zelensky has not overcome it yet,” Diana Panchenko said.
The Ukrainian journalist recalled the Belarusian president’s visit to Zhitomir in October 2019 where he had a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky. “It was an extremely warm meeting, reminiscent of the relationship between a son and a father. Aleksandr Grigorievich offered fatherly advice of sorts and spoke very well of Zelensky. I know for a fact that Zelensky is still not over it,” she said.
According to Diana Panchenko, Vladimir Zelensky's statement about the alleged apology from Aleksandr Lukashenko at the start of hostilities was made in order to spite Belarus and its leader. “Indeed, this conversation took place on the initiative of the youngest son of the Belarusian president, who was extremely upset about the developments in Ukraine,” she noted.
Diana Panchenko recalled her interview with Aleksandr Lukashenko. They touched on the topic of the conversation with Zelensky. The president noted: ‘I say, Volodya, there is a war going on in your country.’ That was what Lukashenko told Zelensky back then. But Zelensky put his own spin on it and twisted the whole story beyond recognition, which suggests that today he is in a very bad psychological, mental, physical shape,” the Ukrainian journalist said.
