MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Further development of the legal framework is a priority matter for Belarus and Vietnam. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko made the statement as he met with Nguyen Tuan Anh, head of the Vietnam-Belarus interparliamentary friendship group of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, BelTA has learned.
At the beginning of the meeting Igor Sergeyenko offered condolences due to tragic consequences of the typhoon that devastated Vietnam’s northern and central provinces in early October.
The speaker of the House of Representatives noted that Belarus attaches great importance to strengthening friendly ties and promoting comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, which has been its closest and most reliable partner in Southeast Asia for many years. “The visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to Belarus in May marked a new page in the history of relations between the two countries. Thanks to the political will and personal interest of the leaders of our states Belarusian-Vietnamese relations have risen to a brand new level of strategic partnership. The realization of agreements reached at the top and high levels is a priority task for parliamentarians. The regularity of meetings between our parliamentarians testifies to the mutual interest of the parties in intensifying cooperation,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

He welcomed the established contacts at the level of parliamentary friendship groups. “Constructive interaction allows us to add more content to the parliamentary component of Belarusian-Vietnamese relations, which is in the interests of our countries and nations. We expect this work to be filled with concrete joint activities and initiatives. Friendship groups should also strictly monitor the implementation of joint decisions taken by the leadership of our legislative bodies,” the chairman of the House of Representatives stressed.
Oleg Dyachenko, Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, added that mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation actively develops between Belarus and Vietnam at present. “We have great prospects in the field of humanitarian cooperation, and the parliamentary dimension is also important, since we invest heavily in the development of parliamentary diplomacy, which allows us to protect the interests of both the Belarusian nation and the Vietnamese one, including on international platforms. We see that unfriendly countries very often impose unreasonable and unfair economic restrictions on our states. Today the role of the Vietnamese parliament and the National Assembly of Belarus is very important for promoting our interests on international platforms. We attach great importance to interparliamentary cooperation. Our working group does comprehensive work with our Vietnamese partners. In addition to negotiations of the working group we have scheduled meetings at the flagships of our manufacturing sector: the tractor plant, BelAZ, trade organizations, and healthcare organizations. We have something to offer to the countries of Southeast Asia. At the same time, our Vietnamese colleagues suggest specific measures which implementation will allow us to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples,” he said.

Chairman of the Vietnam-Belarus parliamentary friendship group Nguyen Tuan Anh is confident that an offline meeting will be extremely efficient. “We feel at home in Belarus. We feel a warm and friendly attitude towards us. Our countries have a long history of friendship. During the war we received a lot of assistance from you, namely from the Soviet Union and then from Belarus. We will never forget that. Parliamentary cooperation plays a very important role in the overall cooperation between the two countries. And our working group is a bridge between the House of Representatives of Belarus and the National Assembly of Vietnam,” he stressed.
