MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov took part in the opening ceremony of the 25th Model United Nations event held at the International Relations Department of Belarusian State University on 25 April on the occasion of International Delegate’s Day, BelTA has learned.

International Delegate’s Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2019 on the initiative of Belarus and is celebrated annually on 25 April, marking the first day of the international conference in San Francisco in 1945, which resulted in the founding of the United Nations.

Addressing the participants of the event, the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs stressed the important role and significant contribution of the Belarusian delegates to the founding of the United Nations. They took an active part in the international conference in San Francisco in 1945 and put their signatures to the UN Charter, ensuring Belarus’ status of the Organization’s founding country.

The minister added that the UN Charter was developed thanks to the professionalism, endurance and skill of specific people – the delegates who 80 years ago had the honor and responsibility to set up a fundamentally new organization.
