MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) - The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has devolved into a biased international actor, having failed to maintain its mandate as a neutral regional body, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in his piece for the Russia in Global Affairs journal dedicated to the Eurasian Charter of Diversity Multipolarity in the 21st Century, BelTA reports.
“The OSCE has failed to effectively address the challenges of our time. This failure is particularly glaring as it occurred during a relatively favorable international and regional climate," Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized.
The minister further emphasized: "The Organization has forfeited its core advantage. It no longer functions as a forum for political dialogue. Instead, it has degenerated into an arena for politicized debates and a coercive instrument used by certain participating states against others.
"The OSCE has failed to fulfill the hopes related to Europe's indivisible security principle, as enshrined in the Helsinki Final Act. Consequently, the organization proved incapable of preventing the collapse of the European security architecture over recent decades, a systemic failure that ultimately precipitated the ongoing conflict in Ukraine,” he stated. “It must be acknowledged that the OSCE has been effectively 'co-opted' by its Western member states, who have transformed the organization into yet another instrument for interfering in domestic affairs and imposing political changes on participating states that reject Western-prescribed 'solutions' for their internal development.”
Moreover, the OSCE has effectively facilitated Western efforts to expand NATO eastward. “This policy has plunged the OSCE into an identity crisis and stripped the organization of any strategic orientation that might be shared by all participating states. Given this context, it comes as no surprise that trust among participating states has eroded, rendering the organization increasingly irrelevant,” Maksim Ryzhenkov stated.
