MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) - The establishment of joint ventures between Belarus and Cuba is one of the best solutions to counter sanctions, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez told the media on 25 June following talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at the Palace of Independence in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
He praised the meeting with the Belarusian leader and stressed that the countries were opening a new milestone in bilateral relations, which were developing dynamically, including thanks to the efforts of the governments of Belarus and Cuba. “These relations are based on traditional ties of friendship and respect between the peoples of the two countries. This visit testifies to the fact,” said Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
According to him, the talks touched upon a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, with an emphasis on certain aspects requiring decision-making steps. “We exchanged a vision on a very complicated international situation and on ways to increase our cooperation in many areas,” he said. The areas include industry, agriculture, food security, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, tourism, construction, sports, and education.
“We paid special attention to the assessment of initiatives that contribute to the expansion of trade and economic relations between the countries,” the president of Cuba said. “This will make it possible to contribute to a more effective joint counteraction to the unjust and illegal sanctions imposed on our countries. I believe that one of the decisions announced by President Aleksandr Lukashenko – the establishment of joint ventures – is one of the best solutions in order to counteract the sanctions they use to bring us to our knees. We will not let that happen.”

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez thanked Belarus for providing humanitarian assistance to Cuba to overcome the consequences of natural disasters as well as for its traditional support of Cuba at various international venues in condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade. He also confirmed his country’s interest in greater cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.
