MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - Preparations are underway on a new Directive on the Development of Relations with China, and this document must be as specific as possible, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss the development of cooperation with China, BelTA has learned.
“This is a strategy for cooperation forever. But now is a time for concrete actions, in terms of cooperation with China as well. The country's leader wants the Directive to be as specific as possible, quantifiable, with point men responsible for results and execution of plans, and, moreover, with review not every five years, but annually,” Nikolai Snopkov said.
He emphasized that the president has clearly defined the main principle of working with China, which has been in effect for many years: this bears a strategic importance for Belarus forever.
Previously, two presidential directives on the development of relations with China had been adopted in Belarus. The first covered the period 2015-2021. Its logical continuation was Directive for 2021-2025. The document was designed to further the strategic partnership between Belarus and China across a wide range of areas.
At the recent meeting, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the tasks in the new directive should be specified in terms of units and kilograms. However, this strategic document should also set overarching goals, such as increasing China's share in Belarus' total exports. “Ideally, [we would like to see] double-digit figures. That would be a qualitative change,” the president noted. “And the specific figures broken down by organizations and goods are the responsibility of the government.”
