Andrey Belyaninov and Sergei Lebedev
MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The CIS Executive Committee and the international union of non-governmental organizations World Peoples Assembly signed a memorandum of cooperation in Minsk on 28 January, BelTA has learned.
The document was signed by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev and World Peoples Assembly Secretary General Andrey Belyaninov.
Commenting on the event, Sergei Lebedev noted that this cooperation is constantly developing and has recently become even more active. “We are pleased to see the Assembly gaining weight, authority, and respect. It used to be the Eurasian Peoples Assembly, active in cultural, humanitarian and other areas, but now it has become the World Peoples Assembly. This is a positive development as it means the organization has gained significance and importance,” he said. According to the CIS secretary general, many areas of the Assembly’s activities coincide with those of the CIS, forming the basis for cooperation.
“Given this, we will work more closely. We will further cooperation primarily in culture, education and sports,” Sergei Lebedev emphasized.
Andrey Belyaninov highlighted the importance of the document signed in Minsk. “We represent people’s diplomacy, which operates where politicians fail to reach an agreement. The motto ‘Peace to the World!’, which we were once taught, has become even more relevant today. Last September, we held the first World Public Assembly, which brought together more than 5,000 participants from 153 countries. The main theme was conscious unity, and 47 different platforms operated, including interfaith ones. At the heart of people's diplomacy are no conflicts or contradictions,” he said.
According to him, a continental summit is planned in Brazil next year.
