Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko made the statement at a session of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament on 25 June, BelTA has learned.

The speaker said: “Participation in the work of the Constitutional Commission remains an important part for us. All our legal accomplishments, results of interparliamentary cooperation and communication with voters are concentrated here. The first draft of the updated Constitution has to be prepared by August. It adds special importance to our work, particularly work with the civil society. Dozens of thousands of citizens stand behind every MP. Their opinions, needs, and proposals need to be heard. It is the task the head of state set as he addressed MPs directly in the Oval Chamber.”

In his words, the MPs' initiative in favor of the president bringing in the bill on amending the Constitution was one of the results achieved by summarizing the proposals, which were put forward during dialogue platforms, during meetings with worker collectives, and during personal receptions. “In line with the bill the tenure of the current members of municipal councils of deputies will be extended until new members are elected on a single ballot day. The decision will allow ensuring the stability and continuity in the work of representative bodies during the transition period,” the speaker noted.
