Belarusian MFA dismisses Lithuania’s groundless statements on border situation

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – Lithuanian officials’ media statements about an alleged “refusal” to return Lithuanian cargo vehicles from Belarus have been met with surprise by the Belarusian side, BelTA learned from the commentary by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We want to reiterate that Belarus has not banned anything for anyone. There is a border and an established procedure for crossing it. Currently, the border is closed by the Lithuanian side, and the responsibility for its reopening lies with them. As soon as Lithuania opens the border, all trucks will be able to return home in the order of live queue,” the Belarusian foreign ministry stated.

“It seems that the Lithuanian authorities, instead of taking concrete steps to resolve the situation they themselves created, prefer to mislead their own carriers and drivers, attempting to shift responsibility onto the Belarusian side,” the MFA noted.

They added that Belarus hopes for the swift restoration of normal border operations and constructive bilateral relations.
