Yuri Seliverstov
MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – What regions of the Russian Federation will be visited first and how the experience of working in the Finance Ministry may come in handy were revealed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Yuri Seliverstov on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.
Yuri Seliverstov has been vested with the authority of a deputy prime minister in charge of overseeing Belarus’ operation within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and relations with Russia.
When asked what regions of Russia he will visit in his new capacity first, Yuri Seliverstov noted: “When I reach my destination, I will examine the regions where there are some unfulfilled agreements, some reasons for things to go slowly or to proceed in wrong ways. I think we will start with them. The areas where things are more or less okay do not give reasons for immediate interference. This is why we will try to proceed from the problem spots.”
The Belarusian ambassador remarked that the experience he had accumulated as the finance minister will come in handy. “Part of the work I’ve been doing here [in the Finance Ministry], the financial component of all these matters will be of great assistance for me because I understand what mechanisms have been worked out, how we have worked to refinance debts, raise assets, honor commitments, and support export. Although the range of visibility in this [new] capacity is significantly larger, this is why some matters will be new for me, I will delve into them promptly,” Yuri Seliverstov assured.
“Since I’ve attended sessions of the Union State Council of Ministers as a member of the Council of Ministers of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia], I was aware of many matters, I knew them, but I was not directly involved in the development of some decisions and mechanisms. Now after working as a minister for over five years one can understand how things work as a whole. And it is understandable that it will be simpler for me to draw on this experience in this regard. I know which people do what things in our country and who should do what things. This is why it will be easier for me in this regard,” the ambassador noted.
Sessions of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, sessions of the Council of Ministers of the Union State are ahead of him, this is why according to Yuri Seliverstov, he will have to delve into various aspects of the integration agenda right away. “The matters that are submitted for their consideration are understandable as a whole. We’ve been working them out here for more than a day. The formalization of these decisions is important but naturally new challenges and tasks emerge at the same time. It is necessary to continue developing them and discussing them. This is why when the leaders of the two countries meet, when the prime ministers meet, new tasks, new instructions, and new tracks always emerge. We need to work on them so that our states could mutually develop and work better,” the ambassador concluded.
