MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Introducing Chinese partners to Belarusian nature, culture, and traditions makes it easier for them to understand our country, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Aleksandr Chervyakov told journalists following a meeting to discuss cooperation with China hosted by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 27 January, BelTA has learned.
“Tourism is one of the mechanisms of soft power. The more of our Chinese partners visit Belarus and get to know our culture and traditions, the easier it is to communicate with them. They understand us better, and we understand them,” the diplomat said. “Therefore, tourism is precisely the tool that allows us to become closer.”
The ambassador also commented on the factors that will boost cooperation in the tourism sector. “The growth of tourist services will depend on tourist flights. Therefore, we see that as soon as new air routes were opened to Hainan Island and Urumqi, the tourist flow immediately began to increase,” Aleksandr Chervyakov noted.
“Therefore, our priority is to establish efficient travel routes that allow tourists to get here swiftly, and this is the key point,” he emphasized.
“Education is also an element of soft power, because when Chinese students get acquainted with Belarusian culture and language, it becomes easier to communicate and subsequently solve joint issues. Currently, about 12,000 students from China are studying in Belarus, and this number can be increased. This is also an important area for developing future relations,” the diplomat said.
