MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko has met with Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, BelTA has learned.

The meeting was held in Lao Cai. During the talks, the parties expressed interest in expanding inter-regional cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam.

Igor Sergeyenko emphasized the importance of friendly ties and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, which has been Belarus’ closest and most reliable partner in Southeast Asia for many decades. “The visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to the Republic of Belarus in May this year opened up a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. Thanks to the political will and personal interest of the leaders of our states, Belarus-Vietnam relations have risen to a new level of strategic partnership. These key priorities for our cooperation will guide our joint planning and programs in the near and medium term.”

A cooperation agreement in trade, economy, science, technology and culture was signed by Lao Cai Province and Brest Oblast in 2017. It serves as a framework to promote mutually beneficial ties in trade, economy, science, technology, culture and other spheres.

Igor Sergeyenko suggested considering the possibility of drafting and signing a cooperation program between Lao Cai Province and Brest Oblast for 2026-2028.

“This is an excellent practice. Approximately 15 agreements are now in place between the two countries’ administrative units. With active support from parliamentarians, these agreements will facilitate joint cooperation and cultural and humanitarian projects,” the chairman of the House of Representatives emphasized.

The speaker also proposed expanding the circle of partners of Lao Cai Province by including other regions of Belarus, in particular Gomel Oblast. “At the request of Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko, let me invite you to visit Gomel Oblast and to take part in the 19th edition of the Gomel Economic Forum, which will be held on 18-19 September 2025. If you are interested, our deputies from Gomel Oblast are always ready to provide the necessary assistance and contacts,” he added.

Igor Sergeyenko emphasized that trade and economic cooperation is one of the pillars of bilateral relations. Therefore, it is important to leverage the potential of inter-regional relations to fulfill all the tasks set by the leadership of the two countries and to implement the agreements reached. The chairman of the House of Representatives also highlighted the importance of expanding inter-party relations at the regional level.

On the instructions of the president, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko is on a visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to participate in the solemn events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day. The Belarusian delegation includes representatives of BelAZ (the managing company of BelAZ Holding Company), Belshina, and MTZ.

The economic program of the visit features a meeting with the leadership of Lao Cai Province, the participation in ceremonies for the handover of a batch of BelAZ haul trucks and the signing of bilateral documents on supplies of Belarusian and Vietnamese products. A licensing agreement on the establishment of a joint tractor assembly production facility in Vietnam will be signed in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam will mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day on 2 September with a military parade and a theatrical procession in Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, where President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the country’s independence in 1945.
