Belarus suggests trilateral summit to Mozambique, Zimbabwe

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov held a series of negotiations with the foreign ministers of other states on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, the main focus was on promising areas of cooperation, with an emphasis on the agricultural sector, food security, the mining industry, and the possibility of using port infrastructure.

Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasized that Belarus possesses the necessary competencies to effectively participate in the mechanization of Mozambique's agriculture, the launch of joint cooperation initiatives, and the implementation of infrastructure projects.

“It was particularly noted that in its work with African partners, Belarus proceeds from the principle of full-format interaction, moving away from simple trade towards industrial cooperation, the creation of joint productions, and the targeted implementation and exchange of technologies. Specifically, the Belarusian initiative to organize a trilateral meeting in the near future between the heads of state of Belarus, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe was discussed, aiming primarily to intensify trade and economic relations between the countries. The minister invited his counterpart to pay an official visit to Belarus,” the press service of the ministry said.

With Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, Maxim Ryzhenkov discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, the strengthening of economic and investment partnership, and the development of the legal framework. The focus was also on deepening industrial, agricultural, trade and economic interaction, and also creating conditions for the implementation of joint economic initiatives.

The meeting with Ethiopia's State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera Admassu was dedicated to increasing trade and economic cooperation and strengthening interaction on international platforms, particularly within BRICS. The parties agreed to promote joint projects for the mechanization of Ethiopia's agricultural sector using Belarusian machinery and technologies, and discussed opportunities for training Ethiopian specialists in Belarusian educational institutions.

The parties reached an agreement to hold ministerial consultations at the deputy minister level in late October.

On the sidelines of the high-level week, Maxim Ryzhenkov also held brief conversations with the foreign ministers of Angola, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Zimbabwe.

With the minister of foreign affairs of Angola, the prospects for the development of bilateral relations were discussed, and an agreement was reached to continue the dialogue on all issues of mutual interest.
